Modern Man Caves

As a real estate agent, I find more and more men looking for homes that offer what I call “The Modern Man Cave.” These man caves are more sophisticated than those of the past which housed a comfy but rather homely recliner, a remote or two and a tv and/or stereo. Today’s Modern Man Cave is more than likely a lot more high tech and sophisticated!

While today’s MMC is still comfortable, they now typically house more stylish furniture or have a sports or music theme. In Wisconsin, 1 out of every 4 MMC’s are designed around the requisite Green Bay Packer’s theme but occasionaly I’ll walk into a truly unique theme. One of late revolved around the sport of Curling and another revolved around travel destinations.

In addition, todays MMC needs to be able to be outfitted with technology. Smart technology is definitely becoming more popular in these spaces, so the MMC must be able to  easily automate lighting, air flow, sound systems and cable/satellite tv packages. If you have the space you might even decide to incorporate billiards and dedicated gaming areas.

But, perhaps the biggest change to the MMC is that it commonly doubles as both a quiet place to rewind and relax solo as well as a gathering spot for friends. Hence, the home buyer looking for a property with room for today’s MMC will need enough square footage to accommodate a refrigerator, microwave and seating for four…as well as quite possibly our “not always” modern man’s favorite, comfy and well broken in recliner.
