The Art of Window Dressing
Well designed window treatments provide privacy, allow for variable light control, protect your interior from UV rays, provide energy savings by adding an extra layer of insulation all while being a beautiful addition to your home’s décor. Today we are going to take a look at some of the privacy and light control options as well as some of the energy efficiency benefits of Hunter Douglas window treatments.
PRIVACY AND LIGHT CONTROL
Diffuse or Block Out Sunlight
Hunter Douglas window treatments offer a range of privacy and light control options. The many
fabric options range from sheer to room darkening to blackout.
Many products have translucent fabric, which is
designed to diffuse harsh sunlight. The semi-opaque and opaque materials are great options for room darkening when little to no light is the goal., and both options offer varying levels of privacy
depending on the time of day.
Deflect or Redirect Sunlight
A few Hunter Douglas products feature innovative vanes that deflect or redirect sunlight exactly where you want it. They are designed to diffuse sunlight and draw it deeper into your room, which can help illuminate the room naturally without the need for artificial light.
Top-Down / Bottom-Up
With advancements like the Top-Down /
Bottom-Up operating system, you can maintain your privacy but still enjoy natural light. This is a great option for bedrooms and bathrooms.
Duolite/Room Darkening Liners
The Duolite shade offers maximum light control by utilizing two separate fabric panels on the same headrail, which offers numerous options for light control and privacy.
Room darkening liners are available on many Hunter Douglas shades and can be sewn directly to the shade or operate independently.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Insulation
Much of your home’s heating and cooling is lost through the windows and doors. By choosing Hunter Douglas shades that provide insulation, you can reduce energy consumption and save on heating and cooling costs.
In 1985 Hunter Douglas invented the highly energy efficient Duette Honeycomb shades, and the newest innovation is the Duette Architella Honeycomb, which features a honeycomb within a honeycomb. The additional pocket of insulation provides an extra barrier to limit heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer.
Solar Heat Control
The sun’s solar energy can be harnessed in the cold winter months to help heat your home, but in the summer, the extra warmth can drive up your air conditioning costs and make your home uncomfortable. Motorization allows you to customize a schedule for your shades to open, close and tilt automatically, so your home can be the most efficient possible. Of course this can also be done manually.
Daylighting
Daylighting is utilizing natural light to light your home rather than artificial light. Many Hunter Douglas fabrics are designed to draw and redirect natural light deeper into a room, which reduces the need for artificial light, thus reducing your energy usage.
